Rachael Liston
Rachael qualified as a solicitor in 2001 and specialises in medical negligence. She has more than 20 years of experience in representing victims of medical negligence.
She won Dublin Solicitor of the Year at the Irish Law Awards in 2017. Rachael and her team also won Medical Negligence Law Firm of the Year at the Irish Law Awards in 2019.
Rachael is best known for high profile cases involving baby deaths at Portlaoise Hospital and Portiuncula Hospital. She was also involved in exposing breast cancer misdiagnosis cases in St James’s Hospital. She appeared on Prime Time Investigates programme on a number of occasions relating to medical negligence investigations surrounding maternity care at Portlaoise Hospital, Portiuncula Hospital, cancer misdiagnoses at St. James’s Hospital, sexual abuse cases in Naas General Hospital and organ incineration in Cork University Hospital.
Rachael has a wealth of experience in successfully representing victims of medical negligence throughout Ireland. Rachael represents families at inquests throughout the country. She has been involved in many high-profile inquests which have provided much-needed answers to families left behind following the death of a loved one.
Recent cases include:
Roland Doherty v HSE – Roland’s wife passed away at University Hospital Limerick due to numerous failings in care including the failure to carry out CT scans and failing to consider that she was suffering from intra-abdominal haemorrhage.
Murran v HSE – claim against Portiuncula Hospital as a result of a failure to identify and treat a subarachnoid haemorrhage resulting in a bleed to the brain and permanent catastrophic injuries.
Hunt v HSE – claim against Mayo University Hospital as a result of the death of a baby prior to delivery.
Dunne v Coombe Hospital – cerebral palsy claim relating to a subdural haemorrhage caused by excessive force during the delivery and subsequent delay in diagnosing and treating meningitis.
Singh – inquest into death of Ahana Singh as a result of a failure by clinicians at Temple Street Hospital to identify and treat Strep A and sepsis.
